The Island Of The Sun And Its Importance to Ancient Andean Societies

The Island of the Sun is located in Lake Titicaca which lies along the border between Peru and Bolivia. It has been considered a sacred place by Andean peoples for many centuries and a prominent destination for pilgrimmages. It is believed to be the birthplace of the Incan people themselves, but it was also important in pre-Incan times as the mythological birthplace of the sun. Even today it is a spiritual place for the natives of the area and many remnants of ancient cultures and their worship practices can still be seen.
