Alumni donations and colleges’
development expenditures: Does spending matter?
Abstract:
The goal of the authors is to determine what, if anything has an effect on alumni donations to colleges. In other words, why do alumni make financial contributions to their alma mater? The authors look at variables including alumni status as “Greek,” status as part-time or full-time students, and most important to this site, the division of the school’s athletic programs. Using this data, the authors conclude that while factors of being Greek and part-time status affect alumni contribution in a positive and negative manner respectively, that the division of the school’s sports teams have no significant effect on donation.
