
In a study titled “College
graduation rates of student athletes and fans,” Schurr and Wittig
address the question as to whether “social integration” plays a role in
the graduation rates for athletes, fans, and other students.
The process for evaluation involved studies for 3,145 Ball State
University freshmen from the class of 1983 to test whether college athletes
and/or college fans (in this case BSU basketball fans) differ in graduation
rates than others who are not as involved with this activity.
